A small daily loop: read, play, return
Start with a daily reading goal that fits your day, even one minute. Continue from your reading place, follow the Arabic with your preferred translation, and finish the reading you set out to do. The Quran reader is the starting point for the experience.
With a little more time and an internet connection, open Vocabulary from that reading session. The words come from the verses you have just encountered, so practice stays connected to a passage. A short game can be an enjoyable next step without becoming a requirement for a completed reading session.
This is the sense in which we use “Duolingo-style”: a manageable daily activity, visible progress, and varied practice. Yawm is its own Quran reading and vocabulary app, with its own content and features.
More than one way to practise a word
Different question types give a short session some variety. Matching can help you make an initial connection; recall gives you another way to check what you remember. Use mistakes as information about words to revisit, then return to the verse and see the word in context.
Swipe or scroll to compare.
| Activity | What you practise |
|---|---|
| Matching | Connect an Arabic word with its meaning |
| Multiple-choice questions | Choose a meaning from the available answers |
| Audio questions | Listen and recognize words or meanings from their sound |
| Recall questions | Try remembering a meaning before checking it |
A streak for showing up, review for coming back
Daily goals and reading streaks make activity visible. Vocabulary practice adds learning levels, quiz feedback, and streak bonuses. You can mark words you already know and revisit words through spaced repetition instead of only collecting new ones.
You can also return to activities from recent reading sessions in Journey. That makes a familiar passage a useful starting point on a day when you would rather review than start something new. Keep the activity small enough that reading still fits into your day.
Keep the word connected to what you read
In the reader, tap a word for audio and word details, or show word-by-word meanings and transliteration. Read the complete verse translation too: a short word meaning helps with recognition, while the full translation helps you follow the sentence.
When a familiar word appears again, try recognizing it before checking the meaning. Vocabulary games give you a place to practise; the next passage gives you a place to notice what still needs another look.
What to know before you start
Use a structured Arabic course or a qualified teacher when you want a fuller learning path. Yawm can give your daily reading a little practice and variety alongside that study.
- Vocabulary quizzes currently use English meanings and require an internet connection.
- App interface languages, downloadable reader translations, and quiz languages are separate choices.
- Word recognition is one part of Arabic study. Grammar, word forms, context, and interpretation still need attention.
- Yawm’s quizzes are a companion to reading and study, with no promise of fluency or complete Quran comprehension after a fixed word count.
Try one reading session and one short game
- Download Yawm and choose your reader view, translation, and a small reading goal.
- Read a short passage at your own pace, checking word meanings when helpful.
- Open Vocabulary from the reading session while connected and try the available practice.
- Return tomorrow to read a little more and review words you want to recognize again.
Common questions
Is Yawm an official Duolingo product?
No. Yawm is independently made by dawm LLC and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Duolingo. “Duolingo-style” describes the short-session, habit, and game-like practice approach.
Does Yawm have Quran vocabulary games?
Yes. Yawm includes matching, multiple-choice, audio, and recall practice connected to reading sessions, with spaced repetition to revisit words. Vocabulary quiz meanings currently use English, and quizzes need an internet connection.
Will the games teach me all of Quranic Arabic?
Vocabulary practice can support word recognition, but it is not a complete Arabic course. Continue with grammar, context, full translations, tafsir, and suitable teaching resources for deeper study.
Do I have to play a game every time I read?
No. Vocabulary practice is optional. You can keep a session focused on reading and use the learning activities when you want them and have a connection.
