Reading before distractions

Put a little Quran before your distracting apps

Yawm can block selected apps on iPhone and iPad until you earn your daily reading streak. It is optional, uses Apple Screen Time permission, and needs iOS or iPadOS 16 or later. If your problem is opening social media before you remember to read, this gives you a concrete next action: open Yawm and read a little first.

What a Quran app blocker actually changes

A reminder asks you to remember a plan. App blocking changes what happens when you reach for a selected app: you meet a pause before using it. You choose the apps or categories involved, so the plan can focus on the distractions that matter to you.

The reading is still yours to do. Blocking is a practical prompt, not a measure of attention or understanding. Choose a reading target you can approach calmly, and avoid selecting something you need to access urgently as your first experiment.

For example, you could select the social app you habitually open after breakfast. When it is blocked, open Yawm from your Home Screen, continue your reading, and reach the base streak threshold. Your selected apps then become available for the rest of the day.

Check the device and choose a small goal

The blocker has a higher OS requirement than the core reader. Installing Yawm on an older device does not mean Screen Time blocking will be available there. Use the current supported app version and look for App blocking in Settings.

Set up reading before your selected apps

Treat the status shown in Yawm as your guide. Finishing configuration on a day you already read does not necessarily create a fresh block. That respects the reading you have already completed.

The controls on Apple’s blocked-app screen can vary by OS and app version. If there is no direct route back to Yawm on that screen, return to the Home Screen and open Yawm normally.

  1. Open Yawm’s Settings and choose Daily reading goal. Pick a time target that fits an ordinary day.
  2. Open Settings → App blocking and allow the requested Screen Time access.
  3. Choose the distracting apps or categories. Begin with a small selection you can evaluate comfortably.
  4. Enable blocking and check today’s status. If today’s reading threshold is already earned, the apps may already be unlocked.
  5. On a day when the status is blocked, open Yawm yourself, start or resume the reading session, and read until the base streak is earned.

You unlock at the base streak, not the full goal

Yawm separates a smaller base reading threshold from your full daily goal. With a five-minute goal, two minutes earns the base streak; finishing five minutes earns the full-goal bonus. The base threshold changes with the goal you select.

Selected apps unlock when that base streak is earned. You can keep reading toward the full goal because you want the longer session; the blocker does not require the bonus. In the normal daily cycle, the selected apps are unlocked until midnight and blocking returns for the next day’s reading.

If blocking or unlocking does not look right

Do not keep raising the reading target to diagnose a blocking problem. First check whether the app recorded the session you intended. Blocking is optional; adjust or disable it in Yawm’s controls when it is not helping your routine.

  • No App blocking option: check the platform, OS, and installed app version. Android does not have this feature.
  • Setup is incomplete: confirm Screen Time permission, an enabled daily reading goal, and an actual app or category selection.
  • An app opens immediately: check whether Yawm already shows today’s reading as earned or the apps as unlocked.
  • An app stays blocked after reading: open Yawm, check the recorded session and status, and use any recovery or retry control the app presents.
  • A persistent problem: note your device, OS, Yawm version, approximate time, and what the status says, then contact support.

Keep the plan easy to live with

Use one blocked-app choice and one reading cue for the first week. A comfortable reader view and a translation selected in advance make the pause useful: you already know what to open and where to continue.

If blocking feels heavy, use a streak widget or reminder instead. If reading starts easily, keep the same small target before adding more restrictions. The useful result is an approachable reading session that you want to repeat.

Common questions

Can Yawm block social media until I read Quran?

Yes, on supported iPhone and iPad devices. After Screen Time permission and setup, selected apps remain blocked until you earn today’s base reading streak.

Does Yawm’s Quran app blocker work on Android?

No. Android readers can use daily goals, streaks, reminders, and Home Screen widgets, but Yawm’s app blocking is available only on supported iPhone and iPad devices.

Must I finish my entire reading goal to unlock apps?

No. Unlocking uses the smaller base streak threshold. A five-minute goal has a two-minute base threshold; the full five minutes earns the separate goal bonus.
